Ecology and Theology: More in Common than You Think
Professor Tommy Givens of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California explores the growing need to incorporate ecological awareness and environmental ethics into theological education and clergy formation. Speaking at the Los Angeles Symposium on Ecologically Informed Theological Education, he reflects on how seminaries and religious institutions can better prepare faith leaders to address today’s environmental challenges.
The symposium focused on the relationship between ecology, spirituality, teaching, and seminary life, encouraging educators and religious leaders to rethink how environmental stewardship can become a meaningful part of theological training and ministry.
The event was organized as part of The Seminary Environmental Leadership Initiative, supported through funding from the Luce Fund for Theological Education within the Henry Luce Foundation’s Theology Program. Additional support for the symposium was provided by The Julia Burke Foundation.
This discussion offers valuable insights into the future of faith-based environmental leadership and the role theological institutions can play in promoting sustainability, ecological responsibility, and care for creation.
