The Summit of Conscience for the Climate in Paris

Yonatan Neril

Last week, ICSD director Yonatan Neril attended The Summit of Conscience for the Climate in Paris. Over 500 people attended the Summit, from a range of sectors– governmental, faith-based, civil society, media, and business. He had the privilege of interacting with a lot of very interesting people involved in sustainability work– Dr. Muhammed Yunis, Patriarch Bartholomew, Cardinal Turkson, and Vandana Shiva, among others.

The organizers of the conference– namely Nicholas Hulot, special envoy to the President of France for protection of the planet– asked attendees to organize Summits of Conscience for the climate in their home countries. So ICSD intends to do so in Jerusalem in early November, with faith leaders and scientists from the Holy Land. The Summit focused on the question ‘Why Do I Care,’ asking each participant to reflect on why they care about what is being done to our common home. Rabbi Neril wrote a reflection in response to this question, which can be viewed here.
