During January and June 2013, The Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD) and TRUST WIN (Women’s Interfaith Network) of TRUST-Emun worked together on a collaboration. TRUST WIN was responsible for creating, facilitating, providing participants and carrying out the events, and ICSD was responsible for fundraising, budgeting, and providing administrative support for the events. This collaboration included one TRUST WIN Annual Gathering in the Garden of the Mothers in Daliat AlCarmel on January 15th, 2013, and one Women’s Multi-Faith Eco-Gathering held in Ein Karem, from June 17-18, 2013, which focused on “Environmental Issues in Religious Traditions.”
Over 55 Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Druze women participated in each event. Women from the different faiths discussed how to create action plans relating to ‘Women and the Environment’. At the meetings, facilitators led small workshops to generate practical activities in the form of Action Plans on Environmental Sustainability that the women can implement at home, in their schools, and in their communities. The events also included shared meals and music. To read a blog post about the Women’s Multi-Faith Eco-Gathering, click here.
The Gatherings aimed to:
- Overcome inter-religious strife through uniting women to work together for the well-being of present and future generations;
- Further coexistence and sustainability within diverse communities in the Holy Land;
- Utilize environmental cooperation as a way to build and maintain peace in the Holy Land;
- Strengthens the ties between Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Druze women and the sisterhood that brings them together.
