Performer Marilena Bekierz at the Eco Interfaith Poetry Event, 30.06.16 in Jerusalem
Organizer of the Eco Interfaith Poetry Event and first time performer Marilena Bekierz shows how deeply routed faith and ecology issues are, even in modern Pop culture.
Check out the lyrics here:
I’m burning through the sky
Two hundred degrees, that’s why they call me Mrs. Fahrenheit.
This airplanes footprint doesn’t seem so light,
but no worries, just look at all the lights
in Tokyo and Berlin at night
So, don’t stop me now, I’m having such a good time!
Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with
Things that are new, that are shiny, that are blue
That might make me more attractive to someone- maybe to you?!
If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
At the restaurant eating a steak,
like it’s a holy shrine,
because I don’t see any Exit sign
But Time after Time.
And I’ve had the time of my life,
no I never felt like this before
Yes, I swear,
especially,
when I see thousands of dead fish being washed upon the shore.
Now I can see that we’ve fallen apart from the way that it used to be,
no matter the distance I want you to know,
that deep down inside of me
I’m sorry for cutting down every tree
That could have saved so many lives so easily.
Earthquakes shatter human mind
Until one day we stop being so blind
And finally
Look at the stars, look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Don’t look very yellow to me, I feel more like blue!
„Well you can tell by the way I use my walk
I’m a human kind, no time to talk
And we are stayin‘ alive, stayin‘ alive“
While every other species on this planet
Can only be admired on a hard drive.
When monsoons and typhoons combine their power
And the news say „This is the final hour- there will be no more water for anyone to take a shower“
I remember:
„Every breath I take and every move I make, every bond I break, every step I take
He says to me- “I’ll be watching you“!
Like a bridge over troubled water- I will lay me down,
I grant you a second chance, no time to frown,
But this time
No flood will wash away what you have done
Every damage you did to this planet
Will be archived under the sun
As a reminder for future generations
To be more thankful, to show more patience
And He says: My beloved creation do not fail,
don’t let me down, don’t you dare to bail !
Then, I will count your days anew,
I sent you once my son, wasn’t that enough of a clue?!
So don’t stop believing,
hold on to this feeling
there will be no need for kneeling
Rewind the clocks, take a new pile of paper,
this time no need to construct cars or build sky scrapers
Turn your life around, yalla, um ya habibi,
show kindness and respect,
don’t say „Hathihi di donya, c’est la vie“
– because then you will get checked
I promised you a kingdom of heaven here on earth
Show me that humanity knows it‘s worth
And he turns around and I know what he will say:
„A new era of mankind is starting from today!“
