How to Integrate Ecology into Theological Education

Rabbi Yonatan Neril, founder and executive director of the Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development, discusses how ecologically informed teaching can be integrated into theological education. He shares resources developed to help educators and religious leaders bring environmental awareness into faith-based learning.

These resources include reports on seminaries offering faith and ecology courses across North America and Israel, global syllabus collections, and a range of videos and articles from interfaith conferences.

The video also features Joelle Novey of Interfaith Power and Light, who highlights the role of “green leaders” within congregations as catalysts for environmental action.

Recorded at the Washington, D.C. Symposium on Ecologically Informed Theological Education, this gathering brought together 70 seminary faculty and deans to explore how faith and ecology can be integrated into theological curricula. The symposium was co-organized by multiple institutions and supported by foundations committed to advancing theological education and environmental leadership.
