Faith Resources

FAITH IN COMMUNITY

Your status now:

Do you need to renovate your house of faith?

New ideas:

You CAN improve the green status of your faith institution. By working with your clergy, an organization like Jewish Eco Seminars (global) or Faith in Place (USA), or your city council, you can design initiatives for clean air, sustainable food or more by:

  • Planting a communal garden
  • Signing up for an energy audit
  • Investing in solar panels
  • Reducing your waste.

LEARN FROM TEXT

Your status now:

You read scripture but don’t understand its ecology perspectives.

New ideas:

Every faith has scripture or stories on environmental awareness and protection. Ask your faith leader to provide texts to help you learn how and why to protect God’s gift.

ICSD has compiled a collection of articles and videos which explain how different religions sees environmentalism. Read other articles HERE.

FOOD AND FAITH

Your status now:

Everybody eats, so let’s create sustainable food practices in our houses of faith!

New ideas:

Pair food with values of justice and compassion:

  • Organize an organic or fair trade bake sale at your faith institution.
  • Donate leftovers to a homeless shelter or food kitchen – but check local policy first!
  • Beth Tzedec Congregation supported a Syrian refugee family in Toronto and published a book of their recipes.

ENGAGE IN ACTION

Your status now:

You attend services… but you KNOW your faith institute can do better for earth.

New ideas:

Convince your faith leader to introduce an idea from another section of our resources! We have many tips to help your house of faith go greener.

We suggest beginning with Global Impact. As a congregation, you can donate to a wonderful sustainable cause to help humans, animals, or ecosystems.
