Course Description
Recent ecological narratives of our place and purpose within the world have been urged as alternatives to the Christian ‘anthropocentric’ story which in-corporates both dominion over creation and alienation from creation. While these recent narratives make useful contributions to the discussion of the care of creation, they often have misread the Christian story. This course will examine the recent narratives, their reading (or misreading) the Christian story, and identify their positive contributions. It also will reiterate an accurate biblical theology of creation, and explore how a truly Christian theology of creation can enrich the creedal Gospel narrative and, in turn, provide an organic and holistic framework for the Christian life and a sustainable environmental ethic.
