As part of a global effort to mobilize action and ambition on climate change, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for a Climate Summit<\/b><\/a> on September 23rd<\/sup>, 2014 in New York. The Climate Summit is intended to reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and mobilize political will for a meaningful legal agreement in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a precursor to the event, the World Council of Churches and Religions for Peace have organized an Interfaith Summit on Climate Change<\/b><\/a> on September 21st<\/sup>-22nd<\/sup>. The Interfaith Summit, also to be held in New York, will welcome over thirty religious leaders representing Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Indigenous, and other belief systems. The Faith and Science Earth Alliance<\/b> is co-sponsoring the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Interfaith Summit on Climate Change<\/a>\u00a0aims to convey faith communities\u2019 perspectives and suggestions to influence the general summit\u2019s climate negotiations. The attendants will reflect a balance of gender, religions, geography, strong moral leadership and knowledge, as well as engagement on issues related to climate change. These leaders will take a united stand to call for firm and consequential outcomes from the Climate Summit, which will in turn result in tangible political and societal shifts towards environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
